Board Director / Raffle Chairman

Karen Urban

Hi, my name is Karen Urban nee (Szalewski). I was born and raised in Milwaukee, WI. I am the 3rd generation to belong to the Polish Falcons, starting with my grandmother Viola Blicharz who was on the Board of Directors for many years. My mother, Virginia Szalewski, has been a Falcon member since 1939 and also ran the bar and bowling alleys from 1977-1982.

I also grew up in the Falcons and was in the gym class, bowling and Polish dancing for many years. I have been on the Board of Directors for the past 4 years and am also on the Fundraising & Awards committee. I have also become more involved since my nieces are very active in the gym class.

My daughter, Brittany Urban was also in the gym class and bowling since she was seven years old. Now that she has a son, I can't wait for him to start the gym class and bowling for he will be the 5th generation to be in the Polish Falcons.

I am so grateful to be a part of this great organization and for the chance for my children and grand children to have the opportunities that I had to keep up with my Polish heritage, for they are the future.

Polish Name Days

Yesterday 2012-05-18 : Eryka Feliksa Today 2012-05-19 : Piotra Iwa Tomorrow 2012-05-20 : Aleksandra Bazylego ........In Poland, name days (Polish: imieniny) are widely celebrated, & most calendars contain the names celebrated each day. Celebrations in Poland traditionally involve a gathering of friends & family at the celebrant's home at the dinner table, followed by drinking and socializing, similarly to birthday celebrations. The song "Sto lat" is sometimes sung. Children, and often adults too, receive presents, just like on their birthday.
